after the success of the first release by ivan iacobucci, holic trax sublabel monoklo now enlists berlin-based martin lewis for three hot tracks featuring a remix from label boss man and japanese don tomoki tamura. no nonsense opener the wax is a supple, rubbery roller with sparse stabs accompanying the infectious groove. -poetry- then sinks down into a more warming and human groove, with smeared synths bringing colour and heat to a loose house groove, before lewis shows his skills at choppy techno with drumcatch. tomoki tamura also remixes this latter track, stripping it right back to a suggestive, infectious final groove with feather light percussion, skewed chords and involving sub bass that laps at the heels of the track.

lisbons event promotor frenzy, kicks off 2016 with its first release, and its a massive one. portuguese house don pedro goya (classic music company, bloop, overall, music for freaks) delivers a functional deep dancefloor-ish theme - flux. rolling bassline, heavy mental atmosphere and four on the floor drums, turn this record into a very versatile and reliable one. on the b-side, the remix. archie hamilton simply did what he does best. vinyl only

finally the dudes behind the fantastic hell yeah recordings step out into the limelight on their own with their debut ep of on golf channel. and what a debut! tracks range from blissful, boogie influenced house music (adriatic bolt) to the 1992 style primal scream psychedelic chugging banger (quando) via sunny acid (quiet force) and deep emotional vocal led ambience (i don t care who you are). just as you d expect from the amazing sounds their label has put out over the years, this ep is uncategoriseable in the best possible way we look forward to hearing more from the aptly titled balearic gabba sound system, this is just an aperitivo, or is it a selection of antipasti. either way, it leaves you ready for the next course. golf channel every time!

the girl and the chameleon will probably fall under the genre tags of acid, electro and techno but it is so much more. witschkowski has been responsible for exemplary electronics throughout his career and this latest is undeniably some of his best. the album sees the exaltics don a dust mask. warehouse parties, strobe lights and fog machines and the 90s underground acid scene are definite influences. but theres more. across thirteen tracks and two slabs of wax the jena artist takes you on a journey into his world. gnarled and clinical grooves, caustic 303 encounters, depraved dancefloor destroyers and soothing machine music. a sonic trek through tough and taut textures with touches of tenderness. an album that shows a depth of ability, an enviable talent and a knowledge of how to break floorboards.

in 1985 severed heads were asked to release a retrospective, so they dragged out bits lying around. the compilation was titled “clifford darling please don’t live in the past”, spread out into a montage over four sides of vinyl. this compilation includes live recordings, raw demos, unreleased studio recordings and solo pieces from each member of the band during from the first five years. the results are a striking hybrid of the avant-garde industrial and pop.

i walk around in the solar field. from here, the surrounding beams look like cylinder­thick, motionless rain or comet tails painted onto the sky. the tower is all white because the sunrays are pointing directly at it, white in an erased way, like if you leave an empty patch on a drawing, and surrounded by a halo. i go over to one of the sun mirrors. it’s huge and darkish and cold when i touch it. i don’t know if it’s cold and immune to the sun or transfixed in a much more extreme way than the desert. a solar plant can take much more sunlight. it has direct access, like a clip through into the thing outside. the widest zone, like the highest point when it’s lightning. the sunlight is magnetic. intense heat from the mantle pushing against the crust to get closer to the sun.

first time i heard this track out was d.jing with adrian gibson, booker/manager for the london jazz cafe in its hay day in the early 2000s, i thought it was some crazy obscusre early jacksons 45. i had no idea what it was but i liked it and it stuck with me. as my eyes were on 45 s at the time it passed me by until numero group reissued it on their fabulous soul messengers compilation (essential purchase if you don t own). after quite a bit of badgering rob sevier, co-owner of numero group, let this grace my format of choice, so here we are, both sides first outing as a single.

kicking off with the 12 minute epic when the going is smooth & good, which was recently used in keiran hebdens essential mix, this is a truly pioneering piece of disco/funk with a clear message in the music. dipping in and out of intricate percussion workouts and driven by bleepy synth grooves, it has an iressistable lo fi charm. followed by the uptempo this kind of world , another percussive electronic workout that begs the question have you ever seen this kind of world? . the b side sees the lp s tempo drop down a notch with the lp title track anything you sow . the lp finishes with a beautiful electronic ballad every day . this album is an exceptional piece of music, that s all killer, and you ll have never heard anything like it... it will appeal to fans of nigerian afro funk & electronic disco... don t let this fantastic album pass you by!

some more grittiness from the hard beach entertainement camp, introducing this time the one and only cuban house don toni moralez with a bold mix of unfussy, old school influences. *ny edit 1* plays the catchy 90s house vocals card while *time 2 hit da dope* pays tribute to the memphis hip-hop scene with its heavy 808 and cryptic loopy lyrics. finally, wrapping things up with a bang (and hitting 140+ bpm!) *antonio montana at a techno rave* will keep only the most daring ravers going!

an ep of golden bug on lddlm has been a long-time coming. paths crosses, encounters, similitudes. but it took all of us time to agree on how golden bug should fit into our mortal ethics of fragmentation: we don t want to sound like anybody else, each track on the ep should all sound different. the french but barcelona based producer played our game, anticipating his future and very diverse album with a spook yet catchy 12inch. wild boys was an instant ear-catcher, some proto funk with a very strong vocal by yan wagner that made it sound like duran duran on speedball. it was hard to take it to another level but lord tusk, one of our favourite producers of the emerging -no genre london scene beefs it up, kraftwerk way. its moody as we all are. ik voel je shows the more experimental spaced out side of golden bug, we d call it space rock if we had to. do not neglect l-horloge, it s slow, dark, menacing but it s a real time bomb if tuned correctly.
